Convolutional Neural Networks in Astronomy, and Applications for Diffuse Structure Discovery
Abstract
Convolutional Neural Networks have more than doubled in their usage in the astronomy literature every year since 2014. We briefly explain the structure of these image-processing neural networks and how they have been used in astronomy so far. We demonstrate how "transfer learning" can help us use these networks as a discovery machine for diffuse structures in astronomical imaging databases.
