Doomed to Zoom? Reimagining collaboration in the age of emergency
Abstract
The pandemic has forced us to cancel trips and hold virtual meetings. How's that going? Given the intensity of aviation emissions, should we continue even after the pandemic ends, given the dire urgency of climate emergency? I argue that it's time for scientists to come together and collectively lead the way in reimagining collaboration, with benefits to broad sectors of society beyond academia. If we approach this with intention and open minds, perhaps we can not only create something more exiting and effective than Zoom, we can create something more exciting, effective, and inclusive than the traditional fly-in conference.
