Jets and Waves Downstream from Earth's Bow Shock
Abstract
This work is centered on the study of transient dynamic pressure enhancements identified as jets in Earth's magnetosheath. In a previous work (Blanco-Cano et al., 2020) we have found that structures identified as jets using dynamic pressure thresholds can have density or velocity enhancements. What is more, these two types of jets can be associated with different ion populations. In this work we study the occurrence of theses two type of jets within the magnetosheath using THEMIS and MMS magnetic field and plasma data. We also analyze the wave properties inside and outside of them finding that while some of the waves in the inter jet regions are identified as mirror mode storms, waves inside the jets tend to have larger transverse components.
