Control Source Electromagnetic test in the Vallès Basin (Spain) for geothermal characterization: experiment setup and numerical simulations
Abstract
CSEM measurements are good complementary data for MT characterization, although its methodology on land is not sufficiently developed and tested as in marine environments. Acquiring expertise in CSEM is crucial for future studies in places where MT cannot be performed due to high levels of cultural noise. To acquire that expertise, we performed several CSEM experiments in the Valles fault (Barcelona, Spain), where MT results were satisfactory and allow us to verify, control, and constraint the CSEM results. We carried out two CSEM surface-surface profiles and different tests using the metallic casing of wells to improve the sensitivity of the measurements. ln this study, we present the setup of the experiment, the data processing, a 2D joint MT+ CSEM inverse model using MARE2DEM code (Key,2016), and several 3D numerical simulations using PETGEM (Castillo- Reyes et al., 2018).
