Is the introduction of novel exotic forest tree species a rational response to rapid environmental change? – A British perspective
Abstract
Novel exotic tree species bring elevated economic, biosecurity and ecological risks. Limited exotic introduction is justified to fulfil specific commercial objectives. There is no justification for novel exotic introduction for conservation objectives. Exotic introduction requires comprehensive risk assessment across forestry sectors.
