CO2+ ion escape from Mars
Abstract
CO2 is the main constituent of the Martian atmosphere. Ion escape due to solar wind forcing is an important way how this atmosphere is eroded. However, this ion escape is mostly populated by O2+ ions. Nonetheless, we find that CO2+ ions are also a significant, be it smaller component of the mass loss of the Martian ionosphere.
