Obituary: André Brahic (1942-2016)
Abstract
André Brahic, an astrophysicist with the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) and a specialist in the solar system and its formation, died of cancer on 15 May 2016 at age 73. Born in Nazi-occupied Paris on 30 November 1942, Brahic studied under Évry Schatzman at France's Institut d'Astrophysique in the late 1960s before taking up a research position at the Paris Observatory in Meudon. Brahic published a series of papers in the 1970s detailing the results of numerical studies of a gravitating system of colliding particles, including the formation and dynamics of particulate disks, planetary rings, and the solar system itself.
