Ionosonde Data Analysis in Relation with the 2016 Central Italian Earthquakes
Abstract
All available central Italian crustal earthquakes including those considered in a previous study have been reanalyzed. Ionosonde data and crustal earthquakes occurred in 2016 next to Amatrice are studied together with the previous events, which took place in 1984-2009 in Central Italy. The analyzed earthquakes had a magnitude M > 5.5 and an epicentral distance from the ionosonde < 150 km. A multiparametric approach is applied using the variations of sporadic E-layer parameters (the height and the transparency frequency) together with variations of F2 layer critical frequency, foF2, at Rome observatory. The improved dependencies were shown to be similar to those obtained in previous studies in different parts of the world.
