NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) Data Management Best Practices to benefit Science and Society.
Abstract
As the demand for high-value environmental information has dramatically increased NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) has worked to improve NOAA's ability to meet that demand. NCEI hosts and provides access to one of the most significant archives on earth (25+ petabytes), with comprehensive oceanic, atmospheric, and geophysical data. From the depths of the ocean to the surface of the sun and from million-year-old ice core records to near-real-time satellite images, NCEI is the Nation's leading authority for environmental information. But it does this by forging an improved data management team that uses consistent data stewardship tools and practices across all science disciplines. NCEI remains committed to providing products and services to private industry and businesses, local to international governments, academia, as well as the general public. This presentation will demonstrate this through showcasing those best practices and various it's world-renowned data-sets.
