The New AGU Education Section as a Voice for Earth and Space Science Education
Abstract
AGU recently formed of a new transdisciplinary Education Section that provides a home and voice for educators and education researchers within AGU. The Section enhances connectivity across all of the Earth and space sciences by providing educational expertise, scholarship, and partnership development with other organizations and the public. The Section includes educators and students, Earth and space science education researchers, and education advocates. AGU recognized that a diverse, inclusive and transdisciplinary Education section is strongly aligned with AGU's Mission and Vision and is a vital component of the strategic plan and realizing our envisioned future. A vibrant and active Education Section can play important roles in developing our talent pool and increasing public understanding of the Earth and space sciences, vital to the long-term health of AGU. Education research is a rigorous science addressing critical issues of learning, communication, diversity, equity, inclusion and the research enterprise. The formation of the section serves a clear need of the membership who identify with education at AGU and sends a clear signal to the broader Earth and Space Sciences community on the importance of education in our work and research. This presentation will describe the activities and goals of the new section and how AGU members can participate and contribute.
