Orographic clouds in the Mars Arcadia province
Abstract
Orographic forcing by the Tempe Terra plateau enable the frequent formation of cloud at times of year and under conditions that would otherwise not support cloud. Because ice nucleation requires sufficient water vapor and a cooling mechanism, we can use the spatial pattern of water ice clouds to infer details about mesoscale flow features. We analyzed two Mars years of MARCI daily global images to understand the frequency of cloud formation and the gravity waves in this region.
