Historic geodetic mass balance in the Nuuk Fjord Area, West Greenland
Abstract
Assessing modern freshwater flux to polar fjord system relies on different approaches, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, however, in order to provide multi-decadal to centennial perspective limits the number of options available.
Here we investigate historic geodetic mass balance observations derived from aerial photos recorded during the 20th century over the Nuuk Fjord area in Southwest Greenland and compare these to empirically derived mass balance estimates to gauge the freshwater flux to the fjord system since the end of the Little Ice Age.- Publication:
