Impact of Solar Wind Energy on Ring Current, Joule Heating and Auroral Precipitation during Geomagnetic Disturbances
Abstract
This work explains and quantifies the energy dynamics in the magnetosphere-ionosphere system. We have studied the energy transfer through the solar wind-magnetosphere coupling down to the ring current injection, joule heating and auroral precipitation. Comparative studies of different geomagnetic events are analyzed and their energy budgets are estimated. The orientation of IMF-Bz is compared with the distributed energy and found that, the direction of IMF-Bz does play a major role in the injection of charged particle from the solar wind into the magnetosphere. The variation of geomagnetic indices is discussed, which is helpful for understanding the influence of solar wind on the magnetic configuration of the earth. Normal cross correlation analysis is executed to parameterize the influence of IMF-Bz on the amount of energy deposited on inner magnetosphere as a form of ring current injection, joule heating, auroral precipitation.
