The NextGEOSS European Data Hub And Platform Built-in Capacity Building For Faster Up-take Of Earth Observations In Services
Abstract
The Sustainable Development Goals encapsulate the main challenges of our society. Ranging from access to fresh water, food and energy to health, security and economic growth. Earth observations play a central role in supporting these Goals. Europe is investing in it's flagship EO programme, Copernicus, and other initiatives, providing enormous amounts of open data and information.
A major challenge is still in front of us: access to data and resources supporting service developers is still fragmented. The European H2020 project NextGEOSS solution is to create a collaborative and standardised ecosystem where developers can find their way to build EO-based applications and services. This is organised in pilots and NextGEOSS has in addition to ten initial pilots addressing a wide range of societal areas, also opened up to external pilots. In order to succeed, a process for engagement and integration of new pilots on to the NextGEOSS platform has been developed. In this presentation we will explain and show how capacity building in various forms is integrated in this on-boarding of pilots process. This integrated capacity building at many levels and on all steps of the way from data collection to an operational service or analysis, will contribute to faster up-take of Earth observations solving real-life societal problems.- Publication:
