Inter-comparison of CRTM and RTTOV to support JPSS Satellite Data Calibration
Abstract
Radiative Transfer (RT) models are extensively used in different fields of atmospheric remote sensing including calibration and inter calibration of satellite observations, retrieving geophysical products from satellite observation , and as forward operato to assimilate satellite radianc int NWP mode . The RT models are subject to several errors that emerge from inaccuracy in the spectroscopic databases, RT inputs such as atmospheric profiles and surface emissivity, as well as RT calculations and assumptions (e.g., line shapes). This study presents the results of intercomparin two fast RT models which are nationally and internationally used for different applications including Community Radiative Transfer Model (CRTM) developed by the NOAA JCSD and RTTOV developed by the UK Met Office.
