Astronomical data analysis software and systems

This is the first special issue of Astronomy and Computing devoted to the Astronomical Data Analysis Software and Systems conference or ADASS for short. This first special issue on ADASS corresponds to a collection of the best papers submitted to this special issue and presented at the XXVII ADASS Conference in Santiago de Chile during the week of October, 22nd to 26th, 2017. In a sense, this special issue of Astronomy and Computing is a milestone for the astroinformatics community, because the best papers published in the ADASS proceedings (closer to astronomers) are here published as extended papers and will have a wider visibility to the computing community.
