Revealing the nature of ballistic jet ejections in M31 microquasars
Abstract
Ballistic jets are the most powerful accretion-led events - studying howthe disc and jet couple is vital to determine the launching mechanism, yet is prohibited in Galactic sources due to absorption. Indirectconstraints by correlating black hole spin with radio brightness, whilst compelling, suffer from a low sample size. Nearby galaxiesprovide many systems with far less absorption and modern instrumentshave the necessary sensitivity to make progress. We propose a series ofobservations of a new Eddington-rate black hole outburst discovered inpre-approved Swift monitoring of M31. Together with radio observations,we will study the disc-jet coupling and also determine the black holespin. We also propose a series of observations to study the coupling inthe microquasar M31 ULX-2 should it re-brighten.
