Confirming X-ray bright gravitationally lensed quasars identified by Gaia and ROSAT
Abstract
The first Gaia data release has provided a map of all bright point sources on the sky at space-based resolution. Combined with recent wide-field imaging surveys we are now able to identify all bright lensed quasars. This is possible because Gaia can resolve objects down to 0.1" separation, so a quasar candidate with multiple Gaia detections suggests the presence of multiple images of a lensed quasar. For this proposal we intend to observe 6 new lensed quasar candidates selected with Gaia, but which also have corresponding X-ray photon detections in ROSAT. Extrapolating from the \textit{ROSAT} flux, we expect to get robust detections of each lensed image using ACIS-S. These data will confirm the lensing nature of the candidates by detecting X-ray flux in each image.
