IMS Network Capability and Performance during the 2016 and 2017 DPRK Nuclear Tests
Abstract
To conduct comprehensive and advanced analyses of nuclear tests, like those in the DPRK, data from different monitoring technologies are required. Over the past twenty years, the CTBTO has successfully built-up the CTBT IMS network to 90% completion and it ensures that the network is operational to strict standards enabling its data to be used for such purposes. This presentation will reflect on the detection capabilities of the four different IMS monitoring technologies (Seismic, Hydroacoustic, Infrasound and Radionuclide) during the three recent DPRK nuclear tests in 2016-2017. Also an analysis of the impact that IMS station data availability had on the overall detection capability and ongoing efforts to further enhance IMS network data availability will be shown.
