Phylogeography and evolution of the Red Salamander (Pseudotriton ruber)
Abstract
Phylogenetic analyses rejected the monophyly of subspecies of Pseudotriton ruber. Biogeographic reconstruction found that P. ruber evolved in the Coastal Plain. Phylogeographic structure is consistent with an Apalachicola discontinuity. A Müllerian mimicry complex may generate phenotypic variation of P. ruber.
