Critical Parameters for Landau Damping in non-Maxwellian Plasmas
Abstract
Vlasov-Poisson theory and numerical simulations are used to study electrostatic perturbations in collisionless non-Maxwellian plasmas. General expressions for the dispersion relations are derived to give a detailed description of the normal modes of the system. Also, the long-term evolution of the perturbations is studied with particular interest on the critical initial parameters which separate the linear and nonlinear regimes.
