Comparing the Characteristics of Ionosphere for Different Solar Minimum Periods
Abstract
During solar minimum periods the earth's upper atmosphere is characterized by low ionospheric electron density. This condition can still have detrimental impacts on communication technologies such as scintillation of radio waves that impacts the power and phase of radio signals used by communication systems. In order to find out more about conditions in the ionosphere during solar minimum periods, we are comparing the behavior of critical frequency of the ionosphere (fof2), peak height in the F2 region (hmF) and minimum virtual height of F2 trace (h'F2) for two different solar minimum periods to understand the electron density variability.
