Deep observations of NGC 4472:a special ULX, point sources, and diffuse%
Abstract
We propose deep observations of the Virgo Cluster galaxy NGC 4472. Ourprimary aim is to understand the variability of the likely ultracompactblack hole X-ray binary in one of its globular clusters. Characterizingthis object s variability will place important constraints on whetherbeaming can explain the high luminosities of ULXs. Also, NGC 4472 isthe brightest galaxy in the Local Universe, making it ideal for studiesof compact binary populations, and as a giant galaxy falling into alarge cluster, it presents rich opportunities for studies of diffuseemission. The OM data will be used for searches for classical novae andU-band studies of the galaxy s globular clusters.
