A Rapidly Spinning Black hole in the Lensed Quasar RX J1131-1231 at z=0.658
Abstract
The co-evolution of a super-massive black hole with its host galaxy through cosmic time isencoded in its spin. We will report an a recent analysis of archival Chandra data together with a new XMM-Newton observation of the gravitationally lensed quasar RX J1131-1231 at a redshift of z=0.658. The boost in S/N provided by the gravitational lens allows us to place strict constraints on the spin of the SMBH in a moderate redshift quasar for the first time, with implications for the growth of SMBHs.
