A comprehensive empirical model of the ionospheric conductivity derived from SSUSI/GUVI, SuperMAG and SuperDARN data.
Abstract
In this paper we present a statistical model of the ionospheric Hall and Pedersen conductance parameterized by measured ground magnetic field perturbations and measured ionospheric convection. We have utilized LBH short and long observations obtained by the DMSP SSUSI and TIMED GUVI instruments to derive the Hall and Pedersen conductances. For the entire year of 2007 we correlate the derived conductances with spatially and temporally coincident SuperMAG and SuperDARN observations. This provides an immense database that enables us to derive statistical relationships, which are parameterized by MLT, Mlat, solar zenith angle and geomagnetic activity. These relationships allow us to derive continuous global conductance distributions.
