Evolving Global Heliospheric Structure in January 2014
Abstract
How did the evolving structure of the heliospheric magnetic field in January 2014 affect the propagation of field and particles from the Sun to Earth? Energy build-up on local and regional size scales led to an X-class flare and coronal mass ejection, but the post-launch trajectory taken by the disturbance was unexpected. Frequently updated full synchronic maps of the solar magnetic field are used to calculate changes in the global coronal and heliospheric field.
