Suomi NPP to JPPS-1; Maintaining Instrument Performance Continuity
Abstract
Suomi NPP is the first of a new generation of environmental observing satellites. It is the first satellite mission to address the challenge of acquiring a wide range of land, ocean, and atmospheric measurements for Earth system science while simultaneously preparing to address operational requirements for weather forecasting. Carrying the data products forward, JPSS-1, will carry a nearly identical complement of instruments. Consistent instrument characterization and calibration is the critical first step maintaining data continuity. The Suomi NPP and JPSS-1 Flight projects have established robust instrument characterization and calibration programs. Results from the Suomi NPP and the JPSS-1 instrument test programs will be presented showing how the JPSS-1 instruments will be able to continue the Suomi NPP data product record
