The dependence structure of daily hydrological processes
Abstract
We present analytical models of the dependence structure of daily hydrological time series and use these to develop a process-understanding of how catchment processes affect the variance of observed hydrological observations at both daily and aggregated scales. We use the models to explore how concepts of flow separation, stochastic averages, and elements of time series analysis may be used to inform water resources management, and how our models may be applied to both theoretical and practical approaches to link understanding and modelling of hydrologic systems.
