Consumer understanding of product lifetimes
Abstract
A model of consumer influences on product lifetime preference is described. Decisions about purchasing, care in use and disposal affect product lifetimes. Products can be divided into workhorse, investment and up-to-date products. The three product types are associated with different product lifetime preferences. Opportunities for extending product lifetime are linked to an investment mind-set.
