Snowdrops falling slowly into place: An improved phylogeny for Galanthus (Amaryllidaceae)
Abstract
Phylogenetic analysis of nrITS sequences of Galanthus provides a well-resolved topology. Seven major clades are defined: Platyphyllus, Trojanus, Ikariae, Elwesii, Nivalis, Woronowii, and Alpinus. Phylogenetic network analysis identifies several possible hybridization events. Incongruence between ITS and plastid data are more likely due to lack of resolution in the plastid data. Some Galanthus species are in need of taxonomic recircumscription.
