Tomographic probes of QGP at LHC
Abstract
The modification of jets and suppression of high-pT hadrons observed at RHIC are a robust indication of the formation of deconfined quark-gluon matter. A copious production of hard probes, particularly jets with energies well above the heavy ion background, became available at LHC energies with the first PbPb collisions in late 2010. The large kinematic reach of the LHC started providing a sufficient lever-arm to map out the QCD evolution of partonic energy loss. Several observations are consistent with the presence of jet quenching: the observed suppression of quarkonium states due to the color screening, imbalance of transverse momenta in jet pairs independent of jet transverse momentum, broadening of the jet structure and suppression of high transverse momentum leading particle measurements due to medium-induced gluon radiation. These measurements provide qualitative constraints on the nature of the jet modification. In this paper, we review the status of the recent LHC measurements.
