A Demonstration of SPDF Data and Services Enabling Science Studies of the Inner Magnetosphere
Abstract
NASA's Space Physics Data Facility (SPDF) hosts a large and increasing collection of current data from major missions that are relevant to the science of the inner magnetosphere and radiation belts. SPDF services form an important framework for easy access to individual products and correlative use of those products as coherent collections. We will outline and demonstrate the current capabilities/technologies of the SPDF services and software supporting data access, use and understanding of current data, for example from missions like the Van Allen Probes and those of the BARREL Antarctic balloon campaign in the winter of 2013, as well as an extensive range of correlative spacecraft (e.g. THEMIS, Cluster, GOES) and ground data now available within SPDF. Demonstrations will include the Coordinated Data Analysis Web (CDAWeb) access and display system, including direct access to CDAWeb holdings from within IDL sessions, our Satellite Situation Center Web (SSCWeb) and 4D Orbit Viewer ephemeris and conjunction display systems, access to the OMNI dataset via OMNIWeb and CDAWeb, the current scope and operation of the Heliophysics Data Portal (HDP; previously known as the Virtual Space Physics Observatory/VSPO) and our latest developments in the Common Data Format (CDF) software package.
