Dynamical Model for the Zodiacal Cloud and Sporadic Meteors (Invited)
Abstract
We model the dynamical and collisional evolution of meteoroids released from the main-belt asteroids, Jupiter-family comets and long-period comets. The results are used to compute the infrared emission of the Zodiacal cloud and orbit/radiant distribution of sporadic meteors. Our model parameters, including the relative contribution of asteroid/cometary sources, are calibrated from observations of the IRAS/COBE, LDEF and meteor radars. We show how different measurement methods detect different parts of the underlying meteoroid complex, and how these methods can be combined to make progress toward a unified meteoroid model.
