A Preliminary Assessment of the IGRF11 for China
Abstract
A preliminary assessment of the IGRF11 for China in 2000.0 is carried out by comparing geomagnetic elements measured throughout China and corresponding IGRF11 derived geomagnetic values. Mean differences of -63.23 nT, -0.01 °, and -0.07 ° are obtained for total intensity (F), declination (D), and inclination (I) (RMS deviations of 172.29 nT, 0.24°, and 0.22 °, respectively). The differences correlate with magnetic anomalies that expressed by CM4 and MF7, are thought to be associated with crustal sources. After comparing the differences of IGRF11 with that of the regional model, Taylor Polynomial (TP), we find that the intensities of extreme points and RMS of IGRF11 are all slightly bigger than that of TP, but the distributions of differences and the extreme points' locations of two models are highly consistent. We finally conclude that the IGRF11 is capable of providing a satisfactory geomagnetic reference field for China.
