Analysis for the possibility of retrieving Aerosol Index from the visible channels of GOCI
Abstract
Aerosol Index is obtained using the measured differences between the observations and LER model calculations of two distinguished spectral radiance ratios. However, retrieving UV Aerosol index for GOCI is challenging since it does not have two different spectral wavelengths being able to hypothesize same surface albedo. In this study, aerosol index from a single-channel has been calculated. Spectral radiance informations from 388nm OMI level-2 data and selected surface reflectivity from more than a month of periods instead of LER have been used. In order to assess the capability, UV aerosol index retrieved from single-channel and UV-Index values from OMI level-2 data have been compared. The technique was applied over the East Asia region including Korea. This work could be extended with GOCI as aerosol index from single-channel shows similar pattern to the aerosol index from two spectral radiance. An error analysis indicates that a few work required to improve the correlation.
