Broad band spectra and time variability of accreting X-ray pulsars
Abstract
in the last decade, thanks to BeppoSAX, RXTE, INTEGRAL and Suzaku, our understanding of the physics of accreting X-ray pulsars (AXRPs) has dramatically progressed. In my talk I intend to review the most recent observational and interpretational results on these systems. After discussing their broad band spectra, which often exhibit cyclotron resonance scattering features, I will focus on the variation of the spectral and timing properties of AXRPs with luminosity and on the physical aspects of the formation of the pulsed emission. I will eventually discuss the expected impact of ASTROSAT in studies of these always fascinating celestial objects.
