The current state and issues of life science database integration
Abstract
Integration of life science databases scattered around Japan used to be tackled by individual related ministries. In order to make this an all-nation task, four ministries in Japan, MEXT, MHLW, MAFF and METI, started systematic inter-ministry collaboration in FY2011, and have been promoting database integration through the four steps: database catalog, cross-search, archiving and restructuring. This article introduces the current state of these four steps, and mentions issues in each step, such as data sharing and RDFizing.
