Analysis Of Double Slope Single Basin Solar-Still Using PhotoCatalysts
Abstract
This paper presents the effect of two different photo-catalysts (PCís) on solar desalination. A double slope single basin solar-still with basin area 1 m2 is used for solar desalination. PCís are the chemicals which enhances the evaporation rate of water in solarstill in the presence of sunlight without reacting with water and without getting consumed. In this work, the performance of solar-still was investigated by using two different PCís 1) Granular activated carbon (GAC) and 2) PbO2, by varying the weight concentration. The performance of solar-still was investigated with 0.5 kg GAC, 1 kg GAC, and by coating the base of solar-still with 0.5 kg PbO2 and 1 kg GAC. The output from the still was considerably increased by the use of PCís.
