Andrea Musacchio
Abstract
Andrea Musacchio graduated in Biology from the Tor Vergata University of Rome in 1990, working with Gianni Cesareni for his undergraduate degree. He then moved to the EMBL in Heidelberg to carry out his PhD work under the supervision of the late Matti Saraste. As a postdoc, Musacchio worked with Stephen C. Harrison at the Harvard Medical School in Boston. In 1999 he gained independence at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan, where he started investigating the molecular mechanisms of mitosis using a combination of structural, biochemical, and cell biological methods. In 2011, Musacchio moved to Dortmund to direct the Department of Mechanistic Cell Biology at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology, and since 2012 is also Honorary Professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
