Gas flow behavior in extremely low permeability rock
Abstract
This paper presents a numerical model and modeling study of gas flow through extremely low permeability unconventional reservoirs. In contrast to conventional reservoirs, gas flow and transport in low-permeability rock is subject ore nonlinear processes, such as stronger Klinkenberg effect, non-Darcy flow, strong interaction of gas molecules with solids, and adsorption. This is because of the small or nano size pores and high heterogeneity of such shale gas or tight gas formations. In this paper, we will discuss the fundamentals of nonlinear gas flow in low-permeability porous and fractured reservoirs.
