Combined XMM-Newton and Suzaku analysis of the SW Cygnus Loop
Abstract
The Cygnus Loop is one of the brightest and largest supernova remnants in the sky, because of its proximity (540 pc). It shows many pieces of evidence of being an explosion in a cavity, with strong blast wave deceleration in the past 1000 years. Many X-ray observations have taken place over the years, but only high spectral resolution observations with Chandra, XMM-Newton and Suzaku, have the capability of distinguishing the many X-ray line features from the hot shocked plasma in a supernova remnant. XMM-Newton and Suzaku have both made extensive observations of the Cygnus Loop. In the SW region where XMM and Suzaku observations overlap, a combined spectral analysis is carried out.
