Comet Lovejoy from 2 to 9 Solar Radii
Abstract
Comet Lovejoy was observed by SOHO/UVCS at five heights as it approached the Sun in lines of hydrogen, nitrogen and silicon. We determine the outgassing rate and the elemental abundances, estimate the size of the comet nucleus, and discuss the interaction between the cometary gas and the coronal plasma.
