Web-Based Monitoring of Multiple Payload Missions
Abstract
The Balloon Array for RBSP Relativistic Electron Losses (BARREL), part of NASA's Living With a Star Program, will provide low altitude detection of electron loss events to be used in conjunction with measurements from spacecraft such as NASA's Radiation Belt Storm Probes (RBSP). BARREL team members located at universities distributed across the US require a remote, real-time telemetry monitoring system. The BARREL Science Operations Center (SOC) was created to fulfill this need by quickly processing incoming data and making it available through a number of web-based tools. This gives any user, regardless of location, the ability to view live telemetry data for all balloons in the array, generate strip charts with a variety of plotting options, produce dynamic flight maps, monitor payload health and alerts, and download ASCII data files by date. All tools are written in HTML5/JavaScript so no special software is required, allowing everything to be accessed using a computer or device with a modern browser. Presented here are the design requirements, features, and implementation results that may be of use to someone creating a remote telemetry monitoring system for multiple payloads.
