Newtonian Liquid-Liquid Drop Experiments: An Exploration of Miscible Fluid Systems
Abstract
Single drops of water diluted polyethylene oxide were ejected into a bath of pure water. This miscible system produced a variety of drop regimes where a stable liquid column formed underwater. Liquid columns continually dissolved into the bath until fully dispersed, thus these liquid columns can be highly stable and very thin. If solidified, these fibers could be used for a variety of functions from scaffolding for cell growth to transparent, malleable wires.
