Bias correction of AMSU in GSI for HWRF
Abstract
The bias correction of satellite radiances is crucial for enhancing the impact of satellite data on the analysis quality and forecast skill. There are two main particular difficulties for bias correction of satellite radiances in hurricane conditions. The first one is the capturing enough regime variability without accumulating for excessive long periods is currently an unsolved problem in regional satellite data assimilation. Second, there is interaction between quality control and bias correction which make it more complex in presence of clouds and precipitation in hurricane conditions. The test of global scan biases for hurricane usage and the investigation of the use of physically based bias correction model and adaptive inline schemes are investigated in this paper.
