Towards measuring the mass and the radius of the neutron star in UCXB 4U0614+091
Abstract
We propose to observe the ultra-compact X-ray binary 4U 0614+091 for 150 ksec. The main goal of this observation is to simultaneously constrain the neutron star mass and obtain an upper limit of the radius using a novel feature we discovered: a relativistically broadened O VIII Ly_alpha emission line. A second method includes measuring the frequency of the upper kHz QPO observed for this source using EPIC-pn Timing Mode data. A further constraint on the size and distance from the neutron star to the reflecting region comes from measuring the time delays between the illuminating and reflected components of the spectra obtained by EPIC-pn instrument. We will for the first time be able to study these simultaneous spectral and timing features thought to originate in the region close to the neutron star.
