Starburst Science with NuSTAR
Abstract
We present simulations of the starburst galaxies M82 and NGC 253 for the planned NuSTAR observations. These include spectral simulations emphasizing characterization of the X-ray binary contributions in both cases, particularly the ULX in the case of M82, and more detailed simulations using NuSIM to include unresolved X-ray binaries and inverse-Compton scattered IR photons. We will discuss the constraints that NuStar data, possibly in conjunction with Chandra and XMM-Newton observations, will be able to place on these sources of hard X-ray flux in M82 and NGC 253. We will also discuss the feasibility of observing other starburst systems with NuStar and future imaging hard X-ray missions.
