Craters, Crackers, and Cosmic Rays: A Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Workshop for Educators
Abstract
This summer the Cosmic Ray Telescope for the Effects of Radiation (CRaTER) group at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) and the staff of the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center hosted a week-long Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) Workshop for Educators. The workshop's goals were to communicate the latest discoveries in lunar science and exploration, to give educators the opportunity to interact with research scientists, and to equip them to bring these experiences and knowledge to middle and high school students. Participant surveys reveal that the workshop increased the teachers' confidence in and enthusiasm for lunar science. As one teacher wrote, "The resources available for the classroom far exceeds any workshop I have attended. I can literally bring the Moon to my classroom."
