Analysis of Tides in a MarsWRF Simulation Forced with TES Limb Dust Observations
Abstract
The Thermal Emission Spectrometer (TES) onboard Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) collected three Mars years (MY 24-27) of limb-sounding vertical profiles of dust, ice, and temperature. The TES dataset includes the global dust storm of 2001. The binned and averaged dust profiles are used to radiatively force the MarsWRF general circulation model for three Mars years (following spin-up). Resulting temperature fields are analyzed for tidal perturbations and compared with spacecraft observations and standard MarsWRF simulations, which are forced using dust profiles from the Mars Climate Database. Seasonal and inter-annual variability of tidal amplitudes is examined.
