Phase mixing and dissipation of MHD waves in the presence of inhomogeneous magnetic field-aligned parallel flow
Abstract
In this note, it is found that the presence of flow curvature term in the inhomogeneous parallel flow profile adds to the phase mixing and dissipation of the Alfven wave. The result is consistent with earlier studies on micro-instabilities, for which the flow curvature term dominates in stabilising the mode.
